What is NaGISA?
NaGISA is a Census of Marine Life (CoML) Ocean Realm Field Project. It is a collaborative effort aimed at inventorying and monitoring coastal biodiversity. NaGISA, Japanese for the nearshore zone, encourages international cooperation and capacity building while linking CoML goals with local interests.

Activities
NaGISA shares information on coastal biodiversity to the world through various activities.
Education
NaGISA encourages and promotes local communities, students, teachers, and researchers to participate. Through these efforts NaGISA is able to spread knowledge about biodiversity, ecology, and taxonomy to many people and provide an opportunity for individuals to study their local seashores.

Database
The data collected during this project is submitted to NaGISA's own global database where participating researchers can access all of the globally-collected information. The NaGISA Database is scheduled to open to public in January 2012.
All data are also incorporated into CoML's Ocean Biogeographical Information System (OBIS).
