Niceville Students Demonstrate NaGISA Activities
Students from Niceville High School studying marine biodiversity in
Florida recently demonstrated their NaGISA sampling and analysis techniques to Jesse Ausubel from the Sloan Foundation, the major funding agency of the Census of Marine Life project. ( Link 1 Link 2 ) -
NaGISA High School Initiative
Niceville High School in northwestern Florida, USA, is the flagship of the
NaGISA High School Initiative. They are developing a web hub for all groups
interested in joining or just learning about their efforts.

Kesennuma High School NaGISA Protocol Workshop July 2006
Kisennuma High School's Biology Club
and teachers from Nara and Hiroshima Kokutaiji High Schools came
together in Kisennuma (Sendai Japan) to learn about NaGISA and marine
biodiversity from Drs Shirayama, Yokohama and Mr. Hatakeyama (a local
oyster fisherman who has received numerous awards for his work with the
local environment). Three days of sampling the intertidal zones of two
sites (one macroalgae area and one seagrass bed) were topped off with
an outdoor barbeque of local delicacies. see Photos. -
Tanabe and Niceville High School Biodiversity Workshop July 2004
Supported by the Fulbright Memorial Fund
10 high school students from Tanabe Commercial High in Wakayama Japan
and 7 students from Niceville High in Florida came together at Seto
Marine Biological Laboratory to learn about NaGISA and Marine
Biodiversity from Drs Y. Shirayama, T. Kato and R. Rigby. Four days
spent learning sampling techniques and how identifying local flora and
fauna were concluded with presentations of what had been found at the
different sites and the different water depths. The two schools are
planning to continue their NaGISA involvement by setting up there own
local NaGISA sites and exchanging information not only with each other
but the whole NaGISA team. The photos here were provided by Rick
