NaGISA Outreach and Education
Local Participation
Learning about the local environment while participating in a global initiative is an opportunity that is proving to be too good to pass up for many local groups. The community participation which is a vital part of the NaGISA project's mandate to encourage interest in the local environment has taken on a new form with extended workshops, student exchanges and community group educational initiatives. From local fisherman interested in preserving their source of income to high school students hoping to get a leg up in the competitive world of college applications community groups around the world are getting there hands wet at NaGISA sites. If after reading up on NaGISA here you or your group is interested in joining/participating please do not hesitate to contact us.
Real Science
Exploring the unknown may seem like an impossibility but it is not! The question of what lives on the worlds shores is being answered by scientists as you read this... and you can join in! Your local beach may harbor more than you know and by getting out there and looking you will not only be learning more about your local biology hands on, but also experiencing a few of the challenges that scientists face when doing research. To become involved with a NaGISA project in your area contact us and we will put you in touch with the nearest group.
High School/Community Groups
The NaGISA method is simple, low-tech, and cost-efficient but it is possible for high schools and community groups to enjoy a taste of it with a simpler modified version that concentrates on on passive sampling. Adapted for non scientists, this version can provide students with an engaging experience in biology field work. (Online version coming soon)
