industry it has since expanded to support overseas cooperative
assistance, maritime development and domestic social welfare and

Ocean Biogeographic Information System (OBIS)
A web-based provider of global geo-referenced information on marine
species, with online tools for visualizing relationships among species
and their environment.
Consortium of Ocean Leadership
The Consortium for Ocean Leadership is a Washington, DC-based
nonprofit organization that represents 97 of the leading public and
private ocean research and education institutions, aquaria and industry
with the mission to advance research, education and sound ocean
policy.
Global Taxonomic Initiative (GTI)
Organized as a response to the the shortage of taxonomic
information, expertise and resources that hinder implementation of the
Convention on Biological Diversity in the Asian region.
Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS)
An organization with the goal of contributing to the advancement of
science, under the auspices of the Ministry of Education, Science,
Sports and Culture (Monbusho) of Japan.
DIVERSITAS Western Pacific and Asia (DIWPA)
An international network for promoting cooperative studies and
information exchange on biodiversity, in the region of Western Pacific
and Asia, under a close cooperation with its mother program,
Diversitas, organized by IUBS, SCOPE and UNESCO

A philanthropic nonprofit institution, established in 1934 by Alfred
Pritchard Sloan, Jr., then President and Chief Executive Officer of the
General Motors Corporation
Techno Ocean Network (TON)
The TON is maintained by members and participants of Techno-Ocean an
international convention relating to marine science and
technology.
IBOY International Biodiversity Observation Year (IBOY)
2002/2003 An initiative of DIVERSITAS. IBOY's goals were to (i)
promote and integrate biodiversity research, advancing a holistic
understanding of biodiversity and (ii) increase communication to a
broad audience of science-based information on biodiversity and its
importance for human welfare.
